Well, now what? That's what a lot of Tennessee football fans are thinking on Wednesday, as some not-so great news came in on 5-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr. Despite being a Vols commit for quite some time, Ohio State has been turning his head and the Big Ten powerhouse is looking to post a flip.
On Tuesday night, reports indicated that Sanders wouldn't be doing that and that he'd be making things official with the Vols and head coach Josh Heupel. That's not going to be happening on Wednesday, as 247Sports' Tom Loy has reported that Sanders will be delaying things. Oh?
5-star OT David Sanders Jr. has delayed his signing with Tennessee
We don't want to jump to conclusions, but this feels like a case of a young man torn between two schools and he's not quite ready to make a decision. The Early Signing Period runs from Dec. 4-6, meaning Sanders has until Friday to shut things down and sign.
However, if he decides he needs more time, the elite prospect could end up waiting until February to make a decision. Will Tennessee and Ohio State wait that long to let him decide? It's not an ideal scenario, but this is not the kind of recruit either team would want to miss out on.
Sanders is the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country for his class and one of the top players nationally. Every big-time program offered him, with Tennessee landing his verbal in August. It seemed like he was locked in with the SEC side, but again, the Buckeyes haven't stopped pushing for him.
Tennessee fans are nervous here, which is nothing new. Over the past week or so there have been plenty of rumors floating around that OSU could end up winning this recruiting battle. With Sanders delaying his final call, it leaves things clear as mud. Will he make an announcement either Thursday or Friday? Your guess is as good as ours.
