The first day of the Early Signing Period here and the Tennessee Volunteers are ready to bring in a loaded class for 2025. However, there's still one big question that needs to be answered: Will 5-star offensive tackle prospect David Sanders Jr. join the Vols?
That's what fans everywhere are hoping for, but things remain a bit up in the air. Per multiple reports, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been making a gigantic push to try and flip the elite playmaker. They had him in Columbus recently for the College GameDay win against Indiana.
At first, it seemed like Ohio State was not only catching up in the race, but some reporters stated that perhaps Ryan Day and Co. were in the lead. So, with an announcement coming at any moment, what's the latest on one of the top recruits in the country?
Tennessee is hoping to prevent David Sanders Jr. from flipping to Ohio State
On Tuesday night, 247Sports' Tom Loy dropped an update that people in Knoxville were hoping for, saying that his sources are telling him that barring a 'last-second change of heart,' Sanders will end up sticking with his commitment to Josh Heupel.
Should that be the case, we don't have to tell you how massive it will be for Tennessee. Sanders indeed is an unreal player - he's ranked the No. 1 OT in the country and No. 5 player nationally according to the 247Sports Composite.
Throughout his recruitment, he picked up 40 offers, with Tennessee, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, Nebraska and more than 30 others putting a ride on the table. Sanders gave the Vols his verbal on Aug. 17, a decision that was widely celebrated among the fanbase.
There has been plenty of worry about him potentially making the switch to Ohio State, but it's looking like Tennessee will hang on. Everyone will know for sure at some point on Wednesday, but the Vols are in a good spot to land Sanders after all.
