Today has been a less-than-ideal day for Tennessee fans, as the Vols have officially moved on from Chaz Coleman. The move wasn’t a huge surprise to many, but some still held out hope that the situation would be resolved. With that said, Tennessee now has some good news on the recruiting front.
Tennessee fans aren’t holding back their thoughts on the Chaz Coleman situation
The Vols' hot streak in the 2027 class continues, landing four-star safety Marcus Jones over Michigan, Ohio State, and Ole Miss. Jones was an official visitor on the June 12 weekend and is now apart of the class per Hayes Fawcett.

Tennessee lands 4-star S Marcus Jones
Jones, a product of Haverford, Pennsylvania, is a big win for the Vols, as the four-star safety had an impressive offer list. Jones is also a strong scheme fit for Tennessee, as new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles loves versatile safeties, and Jones could be the next standout product of a Knowles defense.
Jones plays with a natural edge to his game. He takes good pursuit angles and delivers hard hits despite his smaller, thinner frame. He will need to continue getting stronger and add good weight while maintaining his athleticism, but he is a great chess piece for Knowles to deploy in the future.
Jones has all the tools you could want. He’s tall, rangy, and athletic. It may take him a couple of years to refine his game, but this is a really good pickup for Heupel and the Tennessee staff. The future of the safety roomk looks extremly bright.
Tennessee now has Jaden Butler and Jones in the 2027 class, along with Jowell Combay and Luke Thompson in the 2026 class. The future of the secondary is looking bright, but those players will have to grow up quickly, as Qua Moss, TJ Metcalf, and Edrees Farooq are all upperclassmen. However, the room has a lot of talent and, with Knowles' coaching, they should be in a good spot.
Tennessee’s 2027 class now sits at seven four-star prospects out of its 17 commitments. While the class isn’t as star-studded as the 2026 group was, the Vols have assembled a really solid collection of players who should help the future of the program. The Vosl also did a great job recruiting the state of Tennessee, something that always pays dividends.
The icing on the cake would be landing in-state running back David Gabriel-Georges to finish things off. Tennessee
