This offseason, the door was swung open by defensive back Boo Carter to leave the Tennessee Vols, which had plenty of people pretty concerned. Thankfully, though, he and Josh Heupel were able to get on the same page and Carter is ready to make a different kind of impact in 2025.
That's right, Carter will be playing both ways, as he's now lining up at wide receiver too at spring ball. This is what Carter wanted and the Vols are making it happen for him. He's wasting no time in making an impact too. Sure, he's showcasing steady hands, but if you ask quarterback Nico Iamaleava, it's his trash talking that's turning heads. Wait, what?
Boo Carter talking trash is a good thing for Nico Iamaleava and Tennessee
Carter is bringing a different type of swagger to the offense, which is something the unit needs. Iamaleava said that guys on that side of the ball aren't known for having that kind of energy, but Carter has wasted no time in elevating the guys around him.
"It's great, I think it rubs off on a lot of our guys," Iamaleava said. "I wouldn't say a lot of our guys are big talkers, so when he comes over, he probably brings that energy a little bit. So, yeah, it's great having him."
Checking in at 5-11, 195 pounds, Carter is lining up at slot wideout for the Vols and Heupel. In high school, he was electric on both sides of the ball. During his senior campaign, he posted 911 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, while recording more than 100 tackles and two interceptions on defense.
With his unreal speed, Carter is going to look to give opposing defensive backs issues throughout 2025, which is ironic because he's also going to be a key DB for Tim Banks as well. Thus far, the transition for the youngster seems to be going well and Iamaleava is fired up to be working with him.
