The wait, thankfully, is finally over. On Wednesday morning, the Tennessee football team took the field for the first practice of fall camp. Football is back in our lives and the showdown with Syracuse is one month away. Time is flying this summer.
Leading up to practice, everyone was wondering what the case would be with standout defensive back and wide receiver Boo Carter. On Tuesday, head man Josh Heupel said that Carter was still with the team, but he was going to have to work his way back onto the field.
That's exactly what was showcased for the first session. Thanks to media members on the ground in Knoxville, everyone was given a close look at how things looked to start camp. To open things up, Carter spent his day stretching with the team, doing so without a helmet and shells.

Boo Carter was a limited participant for Day 1 of Tennessee fall camp
Carter stands out in the video above and that's exactly the way it was supposed to be. Everyone else was in a helmet. This might not seem like a huge deal, but it indeed is Heupel's way of letting Carter know that he has to work overtime to get back in good standing with the Vols.
Rumors were flying that Carter was going to be dismissed from the team, but ESPN's Chris Low broke the news that the DB/WR returned to campus and he wasn't going anywhere. The thought of losing Carter had countless people all over the state quite worried, especially after Nico Iamaleava left town.
Thankfully, a meeting took place and Carter will be suiting up for the Vols in 2025. At the same time, him skipping team workouts and letting down guys in the locker room is something that can't happen moving forward - there are no more chances for the youngster.
During his pre-camp presser, Heupel said the team council has been in close contact with Carter and that this team cares about him. When he's suited up, Carter is one of the most valuable playmakers Tennessee has on the roster. At the same time, Heupel was quick to remind him that it's a privilege to play for UT. Carter has plenty of work to do to put everything in the past, but Wednesday's practice feels like a step in the right direction for him.
