The unreal season for Tennessee Volunteers running back Dylan Sampson just keeps on getting better. While it was a bit of a slow start on offense for the Vols against UTEP, a game they were heavy favorites for, the team finally woke up.
Their first strong offensive drive was capped off with a nice touchdown run by Sampson. It wasn't any ordinary TD for him. With that score, Sampson now has 22 total TDs on the year, setting the new single-season record for the Vols. His name will forever live in the record books, which is simply awesome for him:
Dylan Sampson sets Tennessee school record for TDs early on vs. UTEP
Gene McEver previously had the record after he posted 21 total TDs way back in 1929. However, all records are meant to be broken and Sampson has gotten that job done in 2024. It has been a terrific season for Sampson, who is no question a fan-favorite player.
Will his epic campaign continue into the College Football Playoff? That's what Vols supporters everywhere are hoping for. Right now, however, Tennessee is projected to be the first team out of the CFP, which would be a massive bummer.
With that said, if some things go the team's way over the final two weeks of the season, the Vols could end up sneaking in. As for Sampson, he's been a joy to watch and the most reliable player on offense for head man Josh Heupel.
In recent weeks, he's had issues hanging on to the football, which would be the only knock on him. Overall, though, Sampson has been a beast running the football and he's tough to bring down. Whenever he carries the ball, there's potential for a big play to be posted. He's been a TD machine in '24 too. With 22 his name, how many more TDs will he post this fall? We can't wait to find out.
