Tennessee had its second spring scrimmage on Thursday, and all eyes were on the quarterbacks. While we don't know what the stat lines of George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon were, we do know that Josh Heupel did like what he saw.
To build on that, yes, it's just one play, but a clip of the five-star freshman Brandon is surfacing in X. Brandon is rolling to his right, and he makes a throw off of his back foot to junior tight end Ethan Davis that was right on target for a big gain. If Brandon can continue to make big-time throws like this, he will surely give MacIntyre a big return for his money.

After the scrimmage, Heupel was very, "For a true freshman, getting here in January, seven weeks of offseason, what we did and then hitting the ground in spring ball through today, he’s been really sound in what he’s done. I think the pass game, certainly. There’s a lot on our quarterbacks in the run game, too, and that’s an area that at times can be the hardest part for our quarterbacks, but he’s continued to progress in that. There’s still a lot left for him and everybody in that room for us to do what we need to, but as a true freshman, certainly pleased with what he’s done up until this point.”
Faizon Brandon has impressed so far this spring
My favorite thing about Brandon’s rise is just how quickly it’s happening. Sure, he’s had his struggles, and he’s far from a finished product, but the tools are clearly there, and so is his understanding of the game. More than anything, he looks like a really quick learner, which is a huge sign for his future. I really like the tools MacIntyre possesses as well, and this battle should go down to the wire.
