Tennessee has always had a solid track record of NBA players. The Vols have put seven players in the league since 2021, and with Nate Ament potentially being a top 10 pick this June, the Vols will bolster their NBA footprint. A potentially forgotten Vol in the NBA is forward Tobias Harris, who has been killing it for the Detroit Pistons.
Tennessee's projected lineup with Juke Harris has first Final Four written all over it
It’s worth noting that the Pistons have completed an unbelievable comeback against the Orlando Magic with Harris’ help. The Pistons were down 3-1 and the series and seemingly had no hope of coming back, but on the heels of star guard Cade Cunningham and former the Tennessee Vol Tobias Harris stepping up the Pistons completed the unthinkable.
Sure, the Pistons will always be Cade Cunningham’s team, but this team would not have moved on without Harris. In game seven, Harris had an unbelievable showing, scoring 30 points and securing nine rebounds while shooting 5-7 from beyond the arc, something the Pistons struggle with mightily.
It wasn’t only game seven that he stepped up; it was the entire series. In a seven-game matchup, Harris' worst outing, scoring-wise, was 16 points. Overall, the veteran averaged 21.6 points a game and 8.1 rebounds against Orlando. Seeing former Tennessee players step up in the big moments is awesome.
Tobias Harris has had a successful NBA career
There was a trend with Harris in Philadelphia where he didn’t always live up to the hype in the playoffs, but he ultimately silenced those doubts. The former Tennessee standout has had a very successful NBA career after his time in Knoxville. He is a career 15.9 points per game scorer, with a career-high average of 20 points per game during his time with the LA Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers in 2019.
At Tennesse Harris was outstanding as he averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds in 2011. He was selected 19th overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2011 after a freshman season that led him to Second-team Freshman All-American and Second-team All-SEC selections at Tennessee.
