There was a wild showdown on Friday night and people are still talking about it. Yup, Virginia hosted Florida State in a game that had 'upset alert' written all over it. In the end, Virginia posted a thrilling double-overtime win and fans didn't waste a second in rushing the field.
Tennessee vs. Mississippi State final odds and a prediction for 'upset week'
However, a lot of us were worried about Squirrel White, as it looked like he might have gotten trampled by the students who made their way onto the gridiron. The former Tennessee football wideout indeed was at the center of things. Thankfully, Pete Nakos has reported that he came out of things doing just fine:
I know there were some concerns about Florida State WR Squirrel White, who was swarmed by the Virginia field rush last night.

Was told he made it to the locker room with the rest of his teammates and is OK. https://t.co/W7PqoCLhoQ
Squirrel White is 'ok' after Virginia fans rushed the field following the upset over Florida State
As you can see from the clip above, White did his best to try and come down with the desperation toss from quarterback Thomas Castellanos. On 4th-and-12, the stud QB had no choice but to fire off a prayer. There was no miracle finish for the No. 8 Seminoles.
You can't blame the Virginia students for being so excited, especially after Duce Robinson gave them a stare down following what he thought was a game-tying touchdown. Instead, the play was reviewed and things got overturned there.
At the same time, we've got to put player safety in front of everything. What if White got hurt by the thousands of students who sprinted their way onto the field after Virginia's incredible win? We don't want to take away fun for the fans, but there's got to be a better system in place to make sure no one gets hurt when something like this happens.
White was able to dodge things, but will he be lucky the next time around? That's not what anyone wants to even think about. Virginia is going to be fined around $50,000 for the field storming, but new rules need to be put into place to keep everyone out of harm's way - it's as simple as that.
