The third Saturday in October is just about here and Tennessee football is ready to post an upset. In order for that to happen, transfer quarterback Joey Aguilar is going to have to be at his best and light up the field. However, not everyone is incredibly high on him leading up to kickoff.
Alabama WR Germie Bernard gives Tennessee extra motivation to post an upset
The list includes former Alabama QB and ESPN commentator Greg McElroy? That looks to be the case. McElroy is going to be on the call for the Vols vs. Crimson Tide showdown this weekend, but he sure has a lot of people talking right now because of what he said about Aguilar this week.
Greg McElroy calling out Joey Aguilar a bit understandably has Tennessee fans up in arms
“I’m not the biggest fan of Joey Aguilar,” McElroy said via Tennessee writer Zach Ragan. “But I’ve liked what I’ve seen. I think he’s done a good enough job. He’s not a real threat as a runner, which does make things a little bit easier.”
He's not the biggest fan of Aguilar? Come on man, you've really got to say this the same week that Tennessee and Alabama face off in one of the biggest games of the year? McElroy did add that he's liked what he has seen from the veteran QB, but then his 'good enough job' comment wasn't great to see either.
Through six games this season, and with Tennessee at 5-1 on the year, the 6-3, 225-pounder has thrown for 1,680 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. From our chair, he's been more than 'good enough' for Tennessee. If anything, he has looked like one of the top QBs in the SEC.
McElroy respectfully disagrees, but this should serve as extra motivation for Aguilar to put on a show in Tuscaloosa. This is the kind of game he's probably been dreaming about, as a win will likely propel Tennessee into the Top 10 and skyrocket the team's chances to reach the College Football Playoff. No pressure, Joey, this is just one of the biggest games of your life. He could cement his status as a Tennessee star with a win and he'll silence McElroy in the process.
