Jamai Mashack did it again. The former Tennessee star silenced the doubters with a career performance in Salt Lake City last night for the Memphis Grizzlies. The performance marked one of the best games in Mashack's rookie campaign on a struggling Grizzlies team. The former 59th overall pick has been off to a solid start to his NBA career, averaging 6.0 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. Plus, on defense, he's averaging 1.2 steals and 0.4 blocks a game, both solid numbers for a 6-foot-3 "guard."
Tennessee battling SEC rivals for perfect-fit power forward transfer
Digging deeper, the performance was incredible for a rookie guard in just his 30th NBA game. Jahami Mashack put up 13 points on an efficient 6-of-13 shooting, while adding an eye-popping 12 rebounds and 14 assists. Even in an era where triple-doubles are more common, that kind of production from a near-undrafted rookie this early in his career is extremely impressive.
Even more impressive, Mashack played all 48 minutes last night. 48 minutes if high-level basketball at a high altitude isn't something a tyro shrugs over. Time and time again, Mashack proves that he can do the unthinkable.

Jahmai Mashack has flashed this ability
Mashack was never known for elite athleticism, but his hard work and high basketball IQ have always stood out. When he was at Tennessee, he was the kind of player who did a little bit of everything. He dove for loose balls, screened, boxed out, made smart plays, etc. The kind of guy that Ricmk Batnes loves to have on his team. It's no wonder he got drafted despite his numbers looking below average.
Now, hopefully, Mashack can build on this and have some more career nights moving forward
The Memphis Grizzlies only have one game left, but ending the year on a high note is always a good way to carry momentum into next season.
