There are still three games left in the season for the Tennessee football team, and while the College Football Playoff dreams didn't come to fruition, it's still been a fun campaign thus far. And you know what, quarterback Joey Aguilar has represented the Vols in the best way possible.

Kickoff announcement for Tennessee at Florida has fans angry

That's why it's a bit of a bummer to think that his playing days with the SEC powerhouse are coming to a close soon. Come Saturday, Aguilar will be playing in his second-to-last home game at Neyland Stadium. Following the dance with New Mexico State, the last time we'll see Aguilar play in Knoxville will be on Nov. 29 against Vandy. This is something he's already got on his mind:

Joey Aguilar has become a fan favorite in his short time with Tennessee football

"Definitely gameday environments home and away," Aguilar said on what's been his favorite part of being a Vol. "There's a lot of animosity I would say in away stadiums and to play in environments like that and come home to Neyland that's super loud - we have 100,000 people cheering, it's been really fun. The Vol Walk too."

Aguilar was also asked during his Monday presser about his future plans and he strongly hinted that he's not going to try and fight for an extra year of eligibility. Aguilar spent two years at the JUCO level, plus two at App State before making the move to UT.

That update from Wes Rucker too understandably has plenty of Tennessee supporters quite emotional. Aguilar came in at the last minute after Nico Iamaleava decided to enter the transfer portal. A lot of us thought the season was over at that point.

However, Aguilar came in with his hard hat, won the starting job and he's been putting up huge numbers for head man Josh Heupel. Leading up to the matchup with New Mexico State, Aguilar has thrown for 2,737 yards, 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Has he been perfect? No, and his performance against Oklahoma wasn't what anyone was hoping for. However, Aguilar has given his all for the Vols in a tough spot and he has exceeded expectations. He may be a one-hit wonder for Tennessee, but saying goodbye to him after '25 won't be easy for a lot of people. He and his family sure have meant a lot to the program this year.
