The amount of drama that former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava created for the Volunteers this past offseason was a lot, but it may have turned out to be a good thing. Due to all of that drama, the Volunteers were able to get former UCLA quarterback Joey Aguilar in what ended up being basically a swap between the two guys.
Aguilar, in two starts, has already impressed Tennessee in many ways. In his season opener against Syracuse, Aguilar went 16-for-28 for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Against ETSU, he went 23-for-31 with 288 yards and two touchdowns and didn't have to finish the game thanks to the early lead.
Iamaleava, on the other hand, has struggled in his first two starts at UCLA. While there was so much drama surrounding the transfer, Aguilar's father, Jose Aguilar, in an interview with On3's Peter Nakos, threw a little bit of shade towards Iamaleava, but also extended his thanks.
"We don't have any problems with Nico; if anything, it's thank you," Jose said in his interview with Nakos. "Joey is in a great spot...Everything that happened, happened, I think it's clear who won the trade. Look at the fans and the stats, everything happens for a reason."

Right now, Tennessee is 2-0 on the season and still in the hunt for a spot in the College Football Playoff. On the other side, UCLA is 0-2 with losses against Utah and UNLV, and Iamaleava has a total of 391 passing yards, just two touchdowns, and already two interceptions.
It really does seem like Tennessee won this end of the deal, both getting rid of Iamaleava and that drama, but also, they got a great quarterback in Aguilar that can lead the team to something big.
There is hope that Aguilar will lead Tennessee and, more importantly, head coach Josh Heupel, to his first win against the Georgia Bulldogs this upcoming weekend, especially with ESPN College Gameday in town.
