It's a play that Tennessee football fans are still talking about. While the Vols were able to come away with a thrilling overtime victory against Mississippi State on Saturday, plenty of headlines are being made due to an embarrassing offensive pass interference call on Chris Brazzell II.
Sorry, but this was another reminder that Greg Sankey needs to do something about the questionable officiating in the SEC. Brazzell made a great play on the ball and the MSU defensive back lost his footing - this was never a penalty.
New angle shows Tennessee was called for worst OPI of 2025 - maybe ever
However, laundry indeed hit the turf and a big-time touchdown that would have given Tennessee the lead was wiped off the board. Give us a break. Head man Josh Heupel was asked about the bogus call and he answered in a way that's sure to make you smile:
Josh Heupel thought the pass interference call against Vols receiver Chris Brazzell late in the third quarter that took a touchdown off the board "would be an interesting play to go watch."https://t.co/BVlJJBlpfp

Tennessee fans remain furious with Chris Brazzell II being robbed of a TD
An interesting play to go watch? Yeah, that tells you that Heupel knows the call from the officials was totally bogus. Yet, he was careful to not slam the team in stripes, which would have no question led to him getting in some trouble.
Well, let us do that for you, Josh. The touchdown for Brazzell should have never been called back. This was one of the worst calls of the season and it's something that can't happen again. Need a reminder of the play? We hope this doesn't have your blood boiling again:
Is this the worst Offensive Pass Interference call in the history of the sport?

Chris Brazzell must have breathed on him? pic.twitter.com/O0APcrg4Zh
This really might be the worst offensive pass interference call in the history of the game, both at the college and pro level. What in the world was Brazzell supposed to do there? He made a perfect play on the ball and was able to haul in the great pass from Joey Aguilar.
Thankfully, this infuriating mistake from the refs didn't come back to haunt the Vols in a close game in Starkville. Tennessee was able to get the job done in overtime, with the team now at 4-1 on the year. A well-deserved bye is here, but we can only hope a brutal call like this doesn't go against UT down the road. Everyone will lose their minds if something like this goes down against Bama on Oct. 18.
