The recruiting buzz keeps building for the Tennessee Vols football program, who are now heavily involved with another top offensive lineman in the 2027 class. They’ve done a great job positioning themselves with top talent this offseason, but now it’s about finishing strong, as a talented official visit list will start visiting in a few weeks.

Tennessee takes major step toward landing five-star RB David Gabriel Georges

With that in mind, Josh Heupel has Tennessee deep in another recruiting battle, as the Vols have just the top four, for Carter Jones, a four-star offensive lineman from Poquoson, Virginia. The 6-foot-6, 290-pound lineman also added Georgia, Clemson, and Penn State to his top list, making the Vols have to beat out three elite programs.

2027 OL Carter Jones puts Tennessee in his top list

Does it get any better than this? Tennessee just made the top list for another 2027 offensive lineman, Nate Carson, a week ago, and now this. I love the emphasis Josh Heupel is putting on interior linemen in this class. I have always been a firm believer that football games are won and lost in the trenches, and not having capable players there is a recipe for disaster, especially in the SEC, where everyone is bigger and stronger.

As I said above, getting the signature from Jones won't be easy, as the competition is elite for him, but if Heupel can pull this one off, it would be massive. Jones is a top player in the 2027 class for a reason. He is a mauling run blocker who can get downhill and set the tone in the run game. He could still work on his technique and pad level, as most young linemen need, but he has the potential to blossom into a star.

In the meantime, Jones will be on campus May 21, so the Tennessee coaching staff needs to set the tone early in the official visit schedule, as it will be his first. I’m confident he’ll love Knoxville, but the real question is whether Josh Heupel and his staff can prove it’s the best place for him.
