Recruiting season is officially heating up, and the Tennessee Vols are right in the thick of it. Tennessee is trying to flip top prospects from SEC rivals while also making sure its own commits stay locked in. Josh Heupel has been hard at work, and soon we will see if his work pays off.

The Vols already have four-star in-state wide receiver Kesean Bowman committed, but they are still pushing hard for five-star receiver Easton Royal, who is currently committed to Texas.

What’s encouraging for Tennessee fans is that Royal had a lot of great things to say about the program and its ability to develop wide receivers for the NFL. Hearing that from a five-star prospect is definitely something that should get Vols fans excited. Royal said:

“Tennessee is one of the top three at producing receivers, and I saw the statistics before he got to Tennessee and how he develops receivers." Royal also said, “They’ve had 800-yard receivers, Biletnikoff winners, draft picks. They showed me the route tree, how it translates to NFL offense, in-game concepts, and NFL teams running the same thing this past season.”

Tennessee could flip Easton Royal

Many have claimed that the Josh Heupel offense and how the Vols translate to the NFL, but Chris Brazzell has debunked that theory recently, saying that Tennessee has prepared him for the NFL, and he's run every route in Knoxville that he has so far in Carolina. Hearing this come from an NFL Draft pick in Brazzell and then hearing a five-star prospect like Royal say stuff like this is very encouraging.

Easton Royal would honestly be a perfect fit for the Tennessee offense. He may not be the biggest receiver at around 6-foot, but he brings elite speed and is a dangerous playmaker whenever the ball is in his hands. Pairing Royal alongside Braylon Staley and TK Keys would give Tennessee an absolutely loaded wide receiver room in Knoxville. His explosive playmaking ability feels tailor-made for Josh Heupel’s offense, where spacing and vertical speed are so important.

If the Vols can somehow pull off the flip from Texas, it would be a massive recruiting win and could give Tennessee one of the most exciting young receiver groups in the SEC. However, taking a recruit away from Texas won't be an easy feat, as they are a national title contender, and leaving an opportunity like that is always tough. LSU and Florida are in the mix as well, so it will be a big bidding war for the talented wideout.

Right now, Josh Heupel and the Tennessee staff just have to keep working on Royal little by little and hope they can eventually flip him away from Texas. June 5 is going to be a really important date because Royal is set to take his official visit to Knoxville. If Tennessee can make a strong impression and sell both the offense and development side of things, the Vols could really strengthen their position in this recruitment.
