Just under two months ago, Kim Caldwell was at a loss for words and seemingly decided on answering questions about the Tennessee Lady Vols' loss to South Carolina by saying that her team had "a lot of quit" in them.
Well, since then, the season only went further downhill, and now, there has been a mass exodus from Knoxville.
With Jaida Civil's announcement that she was entering the transfer portal, Caldwell now has zero players on her roster. So, maybe calling your team quitters in the middle of a season wasn't quite the motivation the Tennessee head coach thought it would be.
Every single player on the Volunteers' roster has now headed out the door, and Caldwell's words seem to have manifested into a different kind of truth.
Kim Caldwell calling team quitters turned into a reality
"We just had a lot of quit in us tonight, and that’s been something that’s been consistent with our team is when we’re not comfortable, and things don’t go our way, and I have a team that’ll just quit on you and you can’t do that in big games," Caldwell said after the loss to South Carolina.
No, this isn't to say that the players themselves quit on the program during the season, or even once they entered the transfer portal.
It’s so great that Kim Caldwell called her team quitters and then they all said “bet” and quit

It's more to point out that it truly seems as though Caldwell's athletes didn't feel they received the support they needed to succeed, being labeled as quitters and all, and because of it, they decided to find new places to call home.

Prospects have decommitted, players are no longer a part of the program, and assistant coaches have been fired. Now, Caldwell certainly doesn't have any quitters left to complain about, or anyone at all.
It truly seems like the rug has been pulled out from under Caldwell's feet, and she has a lot of work to do to repair the once perennial powerhouse program that Tennessee women's basketball is... if she's still the head coach of the program, that is.
