It's not often that Tennessee football fans think of Miami as a rival. When it comes to recruiting, however, the Hurricanes are doing everything they can to give Josh Heupel several headaches when it comes to the 2026 class.
Previously, Miami was able to flip elite 4-star defensive lineman Tyson Bacon, who was previously Knoxville-bound. He backed off his pledge and ended up committing to Miami this spring. Will the same end up happening with 4-star receiver Tyran Evans?
Evans had been committed to Tennessee since January, but following an official visit in Coral Gables this past weekend, he too decided to back off his verbal. In less than 24 hours, On3's Steve Wiltfong has already put in his official prediction for Miami to land the speedster. Sheesh:
On3’s @SWiltfong_ has logged an expert prediction for Miami to land On300 WR Tyran Evans🙌

Former 4-star Tennessee commit Tyran Evans is now expected to flip to Miami
Mario Cristobal pulling a fast one on Heupel? Unfortunately that appears to be the case. He may not be done there either. In addition to flipping Bacon and potentially doing the same with Evans, Miami was also putting in serious work on 4-star tight end Carson Sneed.
Sneed has taken recent official visits to LSU and Ole Miss, while he previously visited North Carolina too. He's been in contact with Miami for quite some time, but it's up in the air if he's going to take an OV there or not. If he does, it'd be more bad news for Heupel and his staff.
The fact that Miami will flip two Tennessee commits - assuming Evans does so soon - this cycle is a pain. What's next, Cristobal is going to reach out to Faizon Brandon and look to change his mind too? That's likely not going to happen, but the fact of the matter is that Cristobal isn't hesitating in going after guys who are Knoxville-bound.
If he wants to build a bit of a recruiting rivalry with Heupel, then some payback will need to be posted soon. Time for the Vols to start looking at some Canes commits and see if they'd rather play their college ball in the SEC instead.
