Miami trying to flip yet another Tennessee football commit has to be a sick joke

Again? You've got to be kidding.

It's almost laughable at this point. Multiple times already, Tennessee football fans have seen Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes pull a fast one on Josh Heupel. Is history about to repeat itself with a touted defensive back who just committed to the Vols a little over two weeks ago?

We hope not, but Cristobal has officially entered the race to sign safety Jowell Combay. Earlier this week, the Georgia product announced on social media that he had picked up a new offer from the Canes. Is this something for Heupel and his staff to worry about moving forward?

Miami is now working to flip Tennessee safety commit Jowell Combay

It was just on July 9 that the 6-2, 190-pounder shut down his recruitment. He picked Tennessee over additional rides from Wisconsin, South Carolina, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida and many others. Throughout his recruitment, Combay has picked up 34 total offers.

According to the 247Sports Composite, he's ranked three stars, the No. 42 safety in the country and the No. 64 player overall from Georgia. He was an exciting get for Heupel and his defensive coaches, but now people are going to be waiting to see if he's going to end up on 'flip watch' or not.

This of course would not be the first time this cycle that Cristobal would be able to change someone's mind in terms of playing for Tennessee. Previously, he flipped 4-star DL commit Tyson Bacon. On top of that, 4-star WR Tyran Evans also bailed on Tennessee to play for Miami at the next level.

Are the Canes going to strike again and provide more headaches for Heupel out on the recruiting trail? We sure hope not. When Combay committed to Tennessee, he made it seem like he was 100 percent locked in with the Vols.

Now, it'll be on Heupel to remind the youngster why he pledged to the Vols in the first place. In doing so, Heupel will hope that he can fend off Miami. As things stand, Tennessee holds 21 known pledges for the 2026 class. The Vols are expecting more commitments later this summer, but losing Combay is something that just can't happen.
