While not everything went perfectly for the Volunteers when the Oklahoma Sooners came to town, it was a great weekend for head coach Josh Heupel and his staff when it came to the recruiting trail.
Last Saturday, as the Vols fell to the Sooners, Tennessee hosted five-star edge rusher David Jacobs, who is the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2027, and according to the young recruit, the weekend was pretty close to perfect.
Of course, the atmosphere in Rocky Top and at Neyland Stadium was unlike any other in the nation, but it was more than that for Jacobs, who has offers from across the country.
Tennessee 'stands out' despite loss to OU
Even with the loss to the Sooners, Jacobs told 247Sports reporter Ryan Callahan that the Vols stood out, and continue to do so as his recruiting process unfolds.
For the No. 1 prospect in the nation and a Georgia native to share praise for Tennessee is a great sign for Heupel and his staff, especially as Jacobs holds offers from powerhouse programs like the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Georgia Bulldogs (his home-state team).

“I came back and just wanted to see everyone back up here," Jacobs said. "You know, I have a lot of connections up here, so I just wanted to see a great game, and we did. I mean, it sucks they came up short. But we just wanted to get back up here and see everyone."
This was Jacobs' second trip to Knoxville, having taken one less than a month ago when the Volunteers returned from their away game at Alabama. On the other hand, the five-star prospect has also taken seven trips to Georgia and three to Notre Dame.
"Head-coach stability and just the people inside the building make me want to be there."I feel they're great," Jacobs said. "Coach Heupel is great. He got them to the playoffs last year and all that, so I mean, he's doing great. It sucks they came up short (Saturday), but he's still coming strong."
Throughout his interview with Callahan, the young EDGE repeatedly referenced Tennessee making him feel at home and as though the Volunteers already felt like a family to him.
Simply put, even when the Vols lose, Heupel and the rest of the staff are knocking it out of the park on the recruiting trail, and this visit was just the latest example.
