The massive showdown between Ohio State and Tennessee football is right around the corner, yet there's plenty of question marks and a little drama surrounding the Buckeyes. This is bad news for Ryan Day, but good news for Josh Heupel and his playmakers.
To start off, Day said there was going to be a competition this week for his starting kicker. Seriously? Yup, Ohio State is pretty much unsure on who to rock with when it comes to kicking field goals. Add in the movement to the interior offensive line and that's also alarming.
Then on Friday, as expected, veteran offensive lineman Zenuae Michalski announced that he was going to be entering the transfer portal. While it was pretty much known he was going to be leaving Columbus in the offseason, this news had to drop the day before Ohio State's biggest game of the campaign? Sure, why not:
Ohio State OL Zenuae Michalski will enter the transfer portal
Michalski appeared in 19 career games for the Buckeyes and he has one more campaign of eligibility left. He was banged up this season, so it wasn't like he was going to be playing against the Vols anyways, but the point remains - it's another distraction Day has to deal with.
Add in the fact that fans continue to call for him to be fired and it really feels like a bit of a mess for the Big Ten side. That's not the case for Tennessee, as Heupel, Nico Iamalavea, Dylan Sampson and the rest of the guys are fired up to post an upset.
The stands at The Shoe are expected to be colored in orange, as the Tennessee faithful are going to have the place looking like Neyland North. The Vols are going to have to play close to perfect football to take down the Buckeyes, but don't be surprised if a positive result gets posted. Should Tennessee win, it would then face No. 1 Oregon in Eugene on New Year's Day.
