It feels like it never ends in Knoxville, as Tennessee has dealt with Nico, Boo Carter, and now Chaz Coleman has become a situation where nobody really knows if he will be part of the Vols next fall. Reports surfaced in the spring that he was homesick and that he took part of spring off, and ever since then there has been ongoing uncertainty about whether he will remain with the program this fall.
CBS insiders think Faizon Brandon is making a loud statement in Tennessee's QB competition
It was reported that Coleman didn’t show up for summer workouts, and he eventually made his way back to Knoxville, but still wasn’t fully with the team. Given this, it doesn’t sound great, and where there’s smoke, there’s often fire.
On3's Pete Nakos dropped a bombshell on Chaz Coleman, saying, "I will be extremely surprised if he is a member of the Tennessee football roster this fall."

Chaz Coleman probably wont play for Josh Heupel and Tennessee
Does Nakos’ report really surprise anyone? The writing has been on the wall for a while now, and as time passes, it feels less and less likely Coleman will be a Vol next year. Nakos's report said he feels like his future is seriously in doubt. Also, according to Nakos, Tennessee has felt like they have tried the best they can to help Coleman as a person, but there hasn't been a full buy-in on his end.
This really sucks, but first and foremost, you hope Coleman is doing okay and getting whatever help he needs. You have to feel for him as a young man dealing with being away from home, because that can be really difficult. Vol fans should definitely have a lot of empathy for him in this situation. Heupel has allegedly been there for support, which is good, and you hope Coleman gets the help he needs, football aside.
When spring started, everything seemed fine. He was allegedly looking very good, and people raved about his speed and size. But then he vanished, and people wondered what had happened. Tennessee brushed it off, and while fans were worried, nobody thought it would come to this. Sure, it was on everyone's radar, but stuff like this usually gets sorted out. However, once he didn’t show up on time, I think we all knew something was up, and that it probably wasn't going to end well for Tennessee. Rumors even floated around that he was dismissed from the team, but those have been debunked. Either way, at this point, we all know something is up, and it's looking more and more like Coleman won't suit up for Heupel.
What hurts the most is that Tennessee made such a big NIL investment in the five-star transfer. If Coleman doesn't play, that money will just go down the drain. Plus, Nakos made a great point, as last year, Tennessee had a lot of Boo Carter drama, and they don’t want this to drag into the season and become a distraction every single game. If Coleman isn’t going to play for Tennessee at all, it’s best to rip the Band-Aid off now and move forward with what Tennessee has.
This is a tough situation for everyone involved. The number one priority is hoping Coleman is okay personally, while also leaving the door open for him to return to football.
