The Tennessee Vols are looking to have another big recruiting class, as Rick Barnes is aggressive in his pursuit of some of the top players in the 2027 class. Barnes just offered a 7-footer in Akol Nyok, and Tennessee now also has an official visit lined up for the Texas football game this fall with one of the best players in the 2027 class.

Five-star Dream City Christian small forward Malachi Jordan is taking an official visit to Tennessee. The 6-foot-7, 225-pound wing has some big-time offers from the likes of Alabama, Kansas, Missouri, BYU, and more. Rick Barnes has Tennessee in a strong position here, and now he has a chance to potentially seal the deal in September in front of a packed Neyland Stadium during the Texas football game.

The 2026 class featured a very good group of developmental players, but it didn’t necessarily have a true crown jewel. In 2025, the Vols landed Nate Ament, who will likely be a lottery pick next fall. However, in 2026, Tennessee had an amazing portal recruiting class, adding players like Juke Harris, Jalan Haralson, and many others. Rick Barnes will now look to build off that success in 2027 with a big-time wing addition.

Jordan is originally from Nashville but moved to Arizona to play for Dream City, one of the best high school basketball programs in the nation. Not only does Tennessee have a hometown advantage, but what also stands out is that Rick Barnes has had a lot of success with big, athletic wings in his career. The obvious example is Kevin Durant, who is a perennial All-NBA player, but Nate Ament also improved significantly during his time in Knoxville and will be a first-round NBA Draft pick. Jordan would be developed by a coach who knows exactly what to do with a player like him. And not to mention, Tennessee has been one of the best programs in college basketball over the last few years.

It’s honestly the perfect storm for Jordan. He’d get to play close to home for a winning program that has a great developmental plan in place. Rocky Top is a perfect fit for him. Now it’s up to Barnes and the staff to make that known and get him to sign. There is still a lot of time until this visit happens, but Tennessee is putting themselves in a very good early position.
