Thus far this season, things are going close to perfect for Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Vols. On Thursday night, Tennessee took on Virginia in a game that plenty of people thought would be close. However, the Vols rolled to a 64-42 win.
However, not everything is great for Barnes. Despite posting the dominant 22-win over the Cavs, Tennessee confirmed on Thursday that sophomore shooting guard Cameron Carr has suffered a left thumb injury. Not only that, but Carr is expected to be off the hardwood for 4-6 weeks. Yeah, this isn't ideal for Barnes and his team's depth at the position:
Tennessee's Cameron Carr will miss 4-6 weeks due to a thumb injury
According to reporter Mike Wilson, Carr suffered the injury last weekend in the Tennessee win over Austin Peay. It was yet another dominant win for the Vols, but it came with the unfortunate price of Carr getting banged up, leading to the news that he'll miss about a month at minimum.
Early on this season, the 6-6, 190-pounder has averaged 4.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and one assist per game for Barnes and Co. Now, though, he's going to have to help out his teammates by supporting them on the bench until he's fully fit to get back in action.
Carr appeared in 14 games last season for Tennessee as a true freshman, showcasing he has a bright future in Knoxville by making some head-turning plays at such a young age. The hope was that he'd be able to take a bit of a leap in his second campaign with the team.
He made plenty of noise by scoring 13 points in a recent win over Montana, earning praise from Barnes. Unfortunately, he's now going to have to overcome some injury adversity, but the good news is that it's not season ending and he should be available for the toughest part of the schedule.
