While Jermod McCoy is still yet to be drafted, the Vols have their second selection of the NFL Draft with wide receiver Chris Brazzell II going to the Carolina Panthers with the No. 83 overall pick. Brazzell was an absolute star during his two years at Tennessee.
John Harbaugh immediately issues challenge to Colton Hood after getting drafted
In his first season in Knoxville after transferring from Tulane, Chris Brazzell II had some early adjustment struggles, but his senior season was dominant. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver earned Third-Team All-American honors from the Associated Press and was a 2025 Biletnikoff Award semifinalist. He posted an impressive stat line, leading the SEC with 84.8 yards per game on 62 receptions for 1,017 yards and nine touchdowns. Carolina is going to love what he brings to the table.
Chris Brazzell is a good fit for the Carolina Panthers
Well, the only downside is that Brazzell will be catching passes from a former Alabama quarterback. But in all seriousness, he’s a strong pick for the Carolina Panthers. They’ve been lacking a true deep threat, and that’s exactly what Brazzell brings. While Tetairoa McMillan is more of a route-running possession guy who gets yards-after-catch, Brazzell adds vertical speed and some of the best body control in the draft. At his size, he gives the Panthers another big target, and pairing him with McMillan creates a tough matchup for defensive backs. Carolina's passing attack has mightily improved with Brazzell on its roster.
While Brazzell has the perfect measureables, he's not just a t-shirt demon. He has legit tape to back up his skills as a wideout.
Not to mention, Mel Kiper Jr. said on the ESPN broadcast that Chris Brazzell II had first-round potential. He even mocked him to the Buffalo Bills early in the draft process. Kiper noted that Brazzell fell much further than expected, but that’s how the draft can go. The Carolina Panthers may have landed a steal, and they shouldn’t apologize for it one bit.
Vols fans should be pumped up for Brazzell, as he is not only going to represent Tennessee well, but also the Panthers.
