With spring football coming up very quickly, Josh Heupel and the Tennessee staff have shifted their attention to developing the new roster and getting recruits on campus for the 2027 class. Many class of 2027 players are beginning to trim down their lists and zero in on where they will take their official visits this June.

With a long list of talented prospects making their way to Knoxville, the list may have just gotten a bit longer. Tennessee has just made the top-five for a 6-foot-1, 220-pound Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, linebacker Zykee Scott. The Vols will also have to compete with some good defensive programs like Michigan State, Pitt, Wake Forest, and North Carolina.

Hear me out, Vols fans. At Michigan State, new head coach Pat Fitzgerald was a great linebacker himself, and produced great ones when he was at Northwestern. Pat Narduzzi had a great run as a defensive coordinator at Michigan State in the 2010s, with some elite defenses, and has put plenty of guys in the NFL as a head coach at Pitt. Wake Forest is one of the worst schools in a major conference, and Jake Dickert has made them respectable even with NIL limitations, and finally, Bill Bellicheck has a resume that speaks for itself. Vols fans should be pumped about this development.

Tennessee makes top list for underrated linebacker Zykee Scott

With the 2026 class having TJ White and Brayden Rouse, two top-100 four-star linebackers, in the 2026 class, the Vols don't need to get super aggressive at linebacker this year. They can find a cheaper option and allocate the money to another position group.

However, Scott is still a really good player. He is rated as the No. 418 player in America by the 247Sports composite and is the No. 15 player in Pennsylvania. The next step for Tennessee is to get Scott on campus for an official visit and show him how great Knoxville is and how he will fit in Jim Knowles' new defense at Tennesse.

The Vols currently have four commits and will look to add to this sooner rather than later, but there's no need to panic; it's still February. Watch out, though, as Tennessee is known to get hot on the recruiting trail.
