With the transfer portal now open, we're seeing more and more Tennessee football players announce they won't be back in Knoxville next campaign. At wide receiver, Kaleb Webb is on his way out as he is in the portal.
He's not the only wideout who will be looking for a new place to call home. On Monday, it was revealed that Chas Nimrod has also made the tough decision to head out of town. Nimrod fell behind on the depth chart and he was rarely featured on offense. However, losing two wideouts like this is certainly not something head coach Josh Heupel was hoping for.
Tennessee wide receiver Chas Nimrod will be entering the transfer portal
Nimrod signed with Tennessee out of the 2022 class, doing so as a highly-touted recruit. He chose the Vols over additional rides from Illinois, Washington State, Arkansas, Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, UNLV and many others. It seemed like he was going to have a bright future with UT.
Instead, he wasn't able to make much of an impact for Josh Heupel's offense. After appearing in only two games his true freshman season, Nimrod appeared in every game in 2023, posting 19 receptions for 194 yards and a touchdown.
The hope was that he'd be able to take another step forward in 2024 as a third-year sophomore, but Nimrod was held to 10 receptions for 121 yards and no touchdowns in 12 games. It was a disappointing season for him, which has opened the door for him to want to continue his college career elsewhere.
This isn't a major loss by any means for the Tennessee offense, but a bit of a distraction with Ohio State on the schedule next. The Vols are ready to try and stun OSU in the College Football Playoff, with Nico Iamaleava and Co. hoping to put on a show. It's a show that Nimrod will no longer be a part of, as he'll start looking at different programs to suit up for.
