Last weekend was Tennessee’s most successful recruiting stretch by far in the 2027 cycle. The Vols landed four-star in-state tight end Malik Howard and added two other talented prospects in defensive tackle Christian Mays and defensive back Dylan Haley, both of whom are under-the-radar players. Tennessee also continues to keep quarterback commit Derrick Baker locked in despite a push from Georgia to flip him.
Bret Bielema drops bombshell claim about Tennessee trying to poach Luke Altmyer
Perhaps the biggest development is that Tennessee appears to be in a very strong position with five-star David Gabriel Georges, who has been one of the Vols’ top recruiting targets over the last year. Right now, things seem to be trending in Tennessee’s favor
This weekend, Tennessee has another talented group of recruits on campus. While the overall number of visitors isn’t massive, the quality certainly is. The Vols are hosting five four-star prospects and three three-star recruits, including one committed to Mississippi State and another committed to Florida State.
It’s a talent-rich weekend according to 247Sports, and if Tennessee can replicate even half of the success it had last weekend, the staff will be very happy. Josh Heupel needs to keep the ball rolling.
Official visitors making their way to Tennessee
Xavier Sabb (ATH) Four-Star
Terrance Smith (IOL) Four-Star
Princeton Uwaifo (OT) Four-Star (Tennessee commit)
Frederrick Ford (LB) Four-Star
Marcus Jones (S) Four-Star
Dayon Cooper (ATH) Three-Star (Florida State commit)
Brandon Allen Jr. (CB) Three-Star (Mississippi State commit)
Carter Jamison (CB) Three-Star (Tennessee commit)
A notable name missing from the list is four-star tailback Tre Sagarra, who was originally scheduled to visit Tennessee this weekend, but he ended up canceling the trip and is set to announce his decision on Tuesday. Considering how heavily Tennessee has prioritized David Gabriel Georges, the news isn’t all that surprising that he's canceled.
One player to watch is safety Xavier Sabb. The borderline five-star prospect would be a huge pickup for the Vols. Oregon appears to have the edge at the moment, but recruiting can change quickly, especially after a big weekend on campus. His brother, Keon, is a starting safety at Alabama and is projected to be an NFL Draft pick next April. If he's even half as good as his brother, he'd be a massive win for Tennessee.
I'm also a big fan of Daylon Cooper from South Pittsburg, Tennessee. He’s currently committed to Mike Norvell and Florida State, but Tennessee could still make a push to flip him. Cooper was the Class 1A Mr. Football winner last season and possesses some really intriguing traits. He has excellent speed and projects well as either a wide receiver or a defensive back at the next level. Adding speed and versatility in every recruiting class is important, and with a talented player like Cooper right in Tennessee’s backyard, he would be a worthwhile priority for the Vols.
Overall, it’s unlikely Tennessee lands three commits again from a group this size, but the staff has strong momentum building, and anything can happen in recruiting.
