Tennessee is off to a hot start this weekend, adding four-star tight end Malik Howard on Saturday morning, and now the Vols will look to build off that with more commitments.

What stands out the most this weekend is the biggest recruiting event of the year, Josh Heupel has brought out the big guns for Tennessee. On campus this weekend is NFL star and former Tennessee running back Alvin Kamara, and it just so happens that Tennessee’s top target, five-star David Gabriel Georges, is also on campus. What a coincidence.

I mean, this is perfect. Tennessee bringing in a two-time NFL All-Pro to talk to Gabriel Georges about the program is absolutely huge. The proof is in the pudding, and if you’re Gabriel Georges, why not hear it from a former player who’s had a lot of success at the next level instead of just Josh Heupel and running backs coach De’Rail Sims? When pros stroll around these big visit weekends, they always have a certain vibe and aura about them.

It’s not like Tennessee has gotten lucky. The Vols have consistently recruited and developed big-time tailbacks. In recent years, Dylan Sampson won SEC Player of the Year and was dominant in Knoxville, racking up nearly 1,500 yards in 2024. Jaylen Wright was a fourth-round NFL Draft pick a couple of years ago and earned Second-Team All-SEC honors. DeSean Bishop was an All-SEC selection in 2025, and he should continue to build on that success with another big fall.

Sure, Ohio State has a nice track record, too, but Tennessee has a great scheme for tailbacks, and he could be the hometown hero. Players like Kamara are etched into Vols history forever, and Gabriel Georges could be the next in line to become that next big-time Vol in the NFL.

By all accounts, the visit has gone great so far, and it’s only getting to Saturday evening. If Tennessee can finish with a strong Saturday night and a big closing interview on Sunday, the Vols could potentially make up all the ground they lost to Ohio State, and then some.

Heupel and the staff have a lot of work to do ahead of his July commitment date, and Ryan Day will do whatever he can to make sure Gabriel Georges ends up in Columbus. But Tennessee can make up a huge amount of ground, especially with Heupel bringing out the “secret weapons.” You love to see it.
