It's looking like it's an SEC battle for Northwestern offensive lineman Josh Thompson. Not long ago, multiple experts predicted the Tennessee football team to sign Thompson, with him making his way to Knoxville for the 2025 season. However, that may not happen.

According to recruiting insiders Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong, multiple teams have since reached out to the talented hoss and they're hoping to turn his head. Yup, it's reportedly a three-team battle for Thompson, with Tennessee, Auburn and LSU the teams still in it. Will head man Josh Heupel end up landing him after all?

Tennessee Vols among finalists for touted OL transfer Josh Thompson

Checking in at 6-5, 300 pounds, Thompson is ranked four stars and the No. 6 interior offensive lineman in the country. With his size and versatility, could he potentially end up playing tackle for the Vols if he signs with the squad?

That remains to be seen. However, things are a bit up in the air for him. It wasn't long ago that it seemed like Thompson to Knoxville was going to be a done deal. However, nothing is ever done until the pen is put to paper - LSU and Auburn are hoping they can get him on campus instead.

Thompson is going to be a massive get for whoever he ends up committing to. He's indeed one of the best transfer lineman in the country. Heupel would love nothing more than to add him to the offensive line, especially after guard Wendell Moe Jr. committed to UT too last week.

In the coming days, we'll find out where Thompson decides to suit up next. Keep in mind that the portal closes on Dec. 28, but a decision from Thompson will be coming sooner rather than later. Will he be Tennessee-bound for the 2025 campaign? Let's hope so.
