Let’s go! What a win for the Lady Vols. Tennessee is now in a great position heading into the next round of the Women’s College World Series. The Lady Vols will have two chances to win one game against their next opponent, depending on who advances. Once again, Karen Weekly managed an outstanding game and helped put Tennessee in a strong spot moving forward.

ESPN dropped the ball during Tennessee’s WCWS game

Karlyn Pickens once again proved why she is the best pitcher in the country. She threw 6.2 innings, struck out six batters, and allowed just one earned run. That run came in the seventh inning on a play at the plate where Tennessee catcher Elsa Morrison narrowly missed the tag.

Overall, it was an all-around team effort. Sure, it would have been nice to see the bats get going earlier, but in the end it didn’t matter. The offense came through when it needed to, the defense played well, and Karlyn Pickens once again dominated in the circle. When Sage Mardjetko came in to finish the game, she didn’t allow a hit and picked up right where she left off after her dominant performance against No. 2 Texas on Thursday.

The biggest hero of the night was Emma Clark, who absolutely crushed a walk-off solo home run to deep center field in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Tennessee a 2-1 win over Texas Tech.

Tennessee has championship DNA

The Lady Vols have done a tremendous job throughout the tournament in the circle. Their pitchers have dominated opposing hitters, and the defense has been outstanding behind them. This type of complementary softball is what wins championships. Karen Weekly has also done an excellent job managing the game, especially with her challenges, saving them and using them at the right moments. I also love the fact that different players have stepped up throughout the tournament. It hasn’t been just one Lady Vol carrying the team. Elsa Morrison came through against Texas, and Emma Clark hit the walk-off against Texas Tech. It has truly been a team effort.

Tennessee looks every bit like a national championship contender. The Lady Vols boast the best pitching staff in the country, and their offense has delivered throughout the postseason. They’ve been opportunistic at the plate, dominant in the circle, and have consistently found ways to win. That’s the formula championship teams are built on. Nothing has been won yet, but Tennessee has positioned itself beautifully for a run to the finals. One more step at a time. Let’s go, Lady Vols. The dream is right there.
