The Tennessee Lady Vols had an incredible weekend in Knoxville, going 3-0 and beating No. 2 seed Virginia twice to punch their ticket to the Super Regionals against Georgia.
Tennessee softball may have already solved its most pressing postseason question
Honestly, the most encouraging part of the weekend was how well Tennessee hit the ball. The bats were a little quiet against Northern Kentucky, but once the Lady Vols faced Virginia, which has a very talented pitching staff, the offense really started clicking. If Tennessee keeps swinging the bats like this alongside how dominant the pitching has been all season, this team absolutely has the talent to make a real run at the national championship.
What’s even cooler is how much attention the Tennessee softball team is starting to get nationally. Their regional game against Virginia pulled in 600,000 viewers, which was the third-highest audience of any regional game all weekend behind only two games featuring Texas.
That’s awesome to see because it shows the Lady Vols are becoming a real draw, and more people around the country are paying attention to what this team is doing and college softball as a sport, as ESPN said it was the most-watched regional round in 10 years.

The Tennessee Lady Vols are a national brand
Lady Vols softball and basketball are two of the biggest brands in women’s sports. The Lady Vols consistently rank among the most-watched teams in the country, and it is great to see the brand continue growing.
The brand is only getting stronger, and if Tennessee can make another trip to the Women’s College World Series, the Lady Vols will bring in even more exposure and national attention. I mean, who would not want to watch Karlyn Pickens pitch? She has been one of the most dominant players in the circle over the last three years. Plus, softball is an incredibly entertaining sport to watch.
The way Tennessee Volunteers fans rally around all of their sports programs is incredible to see. Nobody does it quite like they do in Knoxville. Sure, everyone loves Saturdays in college football and the excitement of March Madness, but not every fan base consistently supports Olympic sports the way Tennessee fans do. Around Knoxville, it is not just about football. The support for softball, baseball, basketball, and other programs is what makes Tennessee athletics feel different.
Now, the Lady Vols have to win two of the next three games against Georgia in order to return to Oklahoma City, where Tennessee will try to capture its first-ever national championship.
