As soon as Juke Harris hit the transfer portal, the estimates of his expected NIL deal were astronomically high.
As soon as he committed to the Tennessee Volunteers, rumors started circulating that head coach Rick Barnes and the Vols had spent upwards of $5 million to bring Harris to Knoxville.
Now, after the excitement has settled and the rumor mill has slowed a bit, a Tennessee insider has debunked those rumors, sharing that the $5 million price tag wasn't correct.
On3's Tennessee insider Mike Wilson shared an update on Harris' commitment, and reported that he had heard the "reported $5 million price tag on Juke Harris is incorrect."
Juke Harris just made sense as a Volunteer
After crossing the UNC Tar Heels off his list and not hearing idealistic projections for the NBA Draft, it ultimately came down to Harris deciding between the Volunteers and the Michigan Wolverines.
The Wolverines are fresh off their National Championship run, have a few players coming back, have an elite recruiting class coming in, and Michigan head coach Dusty May pretty much had a full roster by the time this was all said and done.
Meanwhile, Harris could undeniably be one of the stars on Tennessee's roster, which was looking to fill a few holes after departures like that of forward J.P. Estrella.
This is by no means to say that the Volunteers are going to be significantly worse than the Wolverines this season; they are both powerhouse programs that could both contend for a national title run. However, for Harris's career, Tennessee was undeniably the clearer option.
I’m told a reported $5 million price tag on Juke Harris is incorrect.

All of that is to say that the money may not have been the ultimate deciding factor for Harris, whether the NIL package is worth $5 million or not.
However, the absurd rumors that Tennessee was willing to spend more on him than almost any other program has spent on any one player are now debunked, and it's time to put them to bed for good.
