As the second day of the NFL Draft concluded, the story became about how much farther Jermod McCoy would fall. The former Vols cornerback was given a first-round projection despite missing the past season with a torn ACL, but additional medical concerns have contributed to McCoy still being on the board as we approach the third and final day of the draft.

The expectation is that the draft will not end without McCoy's name being called unless we reach a certain point where McCoy's agents suggest he'd rather choose his own path as an undrafted free agent.

NFL Insider reports that second knee surgery is on the table for Jermod McCoy

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport said that NFL teams are concerned that McCoy will need a second surgery on his knee.

"This is medical concerns about Jermod McCoy's knee. Obviously, McCoy did not play because of the ACL. That is not what this is about," Rapoport said. "The ACL is fine. He did drill at a Pro Day. He is ok. This is about teams wondering if there are going to be long-term issues on his knee. Tom Palisero has also reported that the bone plug after knee surgery might need to be replaced. He might need a second surgery, that's why he has fallen."

Fans and analysts react to Jermod McCoy's fall in the NFL Draft

It's unfathomable that we would even be talking about McCoy in those terms. Even though McCoy didn't play this season, he was a second-team All-American in 2024 and his workout at the Tennessee Pro Day should have quelled many concerns about his health.

But Adam Schefter and Mel Kiper both delivered bad news on Friday to offer additional information about the concerns that teams have about McCoy's health, both immediate and long term. But despite that, there are a lot of fans that are hoping their team ends up with McCoy with the hope that he will return to the form he showed a couple of years ago.

At this stage, many fans are hoping that their favorite team is the one that gives McCoy a chance to prove his skill and his health in the league.
