What was the point of even keeping him on the roster? That's got to be what a lot of frustrated fans for both Tennessee football and the New York Giants are thinking right now. This offseason, there were reportedly trade calls coming in for the G-Men for young wideout Jalin Hyatt.
After his Biletnikoff season with the Vols in 2022, the Giants traded up for him in the 2023 draft, taking him in the third round. Thus far, though, things have not gone to plan for Hyatt and the Giants don't seem to have a clue what to do with him. In the season-opening loss to Washington, Hyatt didn't even play a single snap. Seriously?

From Sunday’s snap counts, Giants WR Jalin Hyatt didn’t have a single snap in the 21-6 loss vs the Commanders.

So despite getting trade calls around the league for him, the Giants decided to not trade Hyatt over the summer and kept him on the 53-man roster, yet, they aren’t even… pic.twitter.com/EFtp7nriHo
Jalin Hyatt must be frustrated with his lack of playing time with the NY Giants
You've got to feel for Hyatt a bit. Despite being a Day 2 pick, it felt like he was going to have a bright future with the Giants and be a downfield threat for the NFC East side. Instead, he's now in his third season with the team and he's yet to record his first pro touchdown.
In his rookie campaign, he was limited to just 23 receptions for 373 yards. No big deal, a big 'sophomore' season would wipe away the bad memories from Year 1. Instead, things got worse for Hyatt, with eight receptions and 62 yards being posted in 2024.
We understand that things have been a mess offensively for the Giants, but there's simply no reason for him not to take the field in a Week 1 contest, especially with NY looking so sluggish. On Sunday, the Giants were blown out 21-6 by Washington and calls for Brian Daboll to get fired are back.
Hyatt saw everything unfold from the sidelines and it's safe to assume he was ticked off he couldn't get out there and help his team wake up a bit. Plenty of eyes will be on Hyatt for the Week 2 game at Dallas. If another game comes and goes without him getting a snap, the former Vols superstar might have to just come out and request a trade. It's a shame Year 3 is already off to a rocky start for him.
