This brutal Kentucky stat shows how dominant the Vols have been in the rivalry
When it comes to Kentucky vs. Tennessee football, it's a rivalry that people in Knoxville love to circle on their calendars. The Vols don't like the Wildcats and the feeling is mutual. With that said, no one can argue with how one-sided things have been in recent years.
Matter of fact, this battle on the gridiron has been one that Tennessee has dominated over the past four decades. Need further proof of that? Thanks to ESPN's Chris Low, we have that for you. As it turns out, in the past 40 years, Kentucky has only taken down Tennessee four times. On top of that, the last time the Wildcats topped the Vols when they had a winning record, the year was 1984. Wow:
Tennessee has dominated the rivalry with Kentucky over the past 40 years
Come on, that's an unreal stat and one that gives the Vols loads of confidence leading up to their showdown at Neyland Stadium this weekend. The last time Tennessee was in action, the Vols celebrated a thrilling win over Alabama at home.
Following the team's bye week, they're ready to get back on the field, this time with the Wildcats next up on the schedule. Tennessee enters that matchup ranked as the No. 7 team in the country and with a 6-1 overall record - the Vols are also 3-1 in conference play.
Things are a bit different for Kentucky, as the Wildcats are 3-5 on the year and 1-5 in SEC action. Things have been so bad for Tennessee's rival, that plenty of local fans are calling for head coach Mark Stoops to be fired. Stoops helped turn things around for the program, but things have looked rough for quite some time.
It doesn't help here that Tennessee has dominated play against them and they'll continue to do so. Next up for these two sides is a meeting on Saturday night for a late game. The stands will be packed and Tennessee supporters are ready for another strong showing against UK to be showcased. It'd be a major shock if that doesn't happen.
