Tennessee put together a solid season in Josh Elander’s first year as head coach. The Vols earned a No. 2 seed in the Chapel Hill Regional, reached the NCAA Tournament, and finished with a 38-22 record. Now the attention turns to what could be a very important offseason. This will be Elander’s first full offseason running the program, and it will be his chance to build the roster the way he wants it.

Tennessee does have several needs to address this offseason, but the Vols also have one of the best high school recruiting classes in the country coming in. Josh Elander will need to evaluate where he wants to allocate his resources and determine which positions are best filled through the portal versus the incoming recruiting class.

Tennessee has not landed any players via the transfer portal yet. However, the Vols still have several needs to address. With the MLB Draft approaching and the possibility of more players entering the portal, Josh Elander will need to carefully evaluate what pieces he wants to add to the roster this offseason.

For sure, the Vols need to add a third baseman, reliable bullpen arms, and potentially another starting pitcher before next season. Tennessee had issues in the bullpen throughout the year, and with Evan Blanco and Tegan Kuhns both gone, the Vols will also need to find dependable weekend starters to replace them.
