The case of Joey Aguilar against the NCAA is still ongoing, as there still hasn't been a ruling after last Friday's court appearance for Aguilar. Both sides presented well throughout the legal process, and it will be interesting to see where the Judge is leaning.
Aguilar is preparing an insurance policy for you while he waits for a decision. Chris Low of On3 is reporting that Aguiilar will attend the NFL Combine while he waits on a decision. Aguilar, however, will still make sure he is eligible to play at Tennessee by only staying there for 48 hours if the Knox County Judge grants him one more year.
Still hopeful of winning in court, Tennessee’s Joey Aguilar is headed to the NFL Combine just in case and will preserve his eligibility by staying for a shorter window, only 48 hours. https://t.co/wUdi8n7D6g

Tennessee and Josh Heupel will have a great display at the combine, showing off the program's player development. With Aguilar now joining, it marks him as the seventh Vol that will make an appearance in Indianapolis. He will have an opportunity to raise his draft stock if he doesn't get another year, and it will also be a great opportunity for him to get feedback on what he needs to work on.
Hopefully, this is just Aguilar being proactive and not because he's heard rumblings of where the Judge is leaning. If Aguilar does get one more year of eligibility it instantly moves Tehnnessee into a top-15 team for next fall.
Where is Joey Aguilar's draft ranking?
Joey Aguilar was a very good college quarterback, but right now, he is not viewed as a surefire NFL Draft pick. NFL Draft Buzz has him ranked at No. 278 overall, which has him just barely outside the seventh round of the draft. Aguilar will have to have a strong performance in his short time at the combine to solidify himself as a draft pick.
Despite Aguilar having a very successful college quarterback career, it doesn't always translate to the next level. In 2025, he led the SEC in yards with 3,565 and also threw 24 passing touchdowns. During his three-year NCAA career, Aguilar has accumulated 10,325 passing yards. It happens often where SEC standouts don't do much, if anything, at the next level, like Tim Tebow, Jake Fromm, Johnny Manziel, and many more. Being a signal-caller in the NFL is extremely difficult, but Aguilar has always had a knack for proving people wrong.
