Vols 2014 Stat Projections: Johnathon Johnson

facebooktwitterreddit

Prior to the reinstatement of junior wide receiver Pig Howard, I had junior Johnathon Johnson penciled in as the Vols’ slot receiver in 2014.

Now that Howard is back in the mix, it will significantly decrease Johnson’s playing time in 2014.

But Johnson will still see some reps, as wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni has said before that he likes to rotate eight or nine receivers over the course of a game.

If that’s the case then you can expect Johnson’s numbers to be similar to his 2013 stats.

Johnson flashed a lot of potential as a slot receiver in 2013, but unfortunately for the Texas native he finds himself buried on the Vols depth chart.

Of course that’s good news for Tennessee. A year ago the Vols were extremely shallow at the position. To be able to have a player like Johnson as their likely seventh wide receiver says a lot about the depth that Butch Jones has been able to build at the position.

The Vols stock is on the way up, thanks to some solid recruiting from Jones and his staff.
