Tennessee football head coach Butch Jones offered his own comments on the Volunteers’ 2017 NFL Draft class after everything finished on Saturday.

After two years of having nobody taken in the NFL Draft, Tennessee football had six players go in the first four rounds this year. Six is the most players the Vols have had go in one draft since the 2010 NFL Draft.

Needless to say, Vol Nation is ecstatic to see it’s players once again represented in the NFL Draft, something they had been waiting for.

Butch Jones got wind of that, and since this draft class was the first one that involved players he recruited, he of course didn’t hesitate to give his support.

Wes Rucker of GoVols247 reports that Butch Jones is “very proud” of this NFL Draft class.

Here’s a bit of what Jones had to say in the article Rucker wrote.

"“I know today is all about their players and their families, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t take a moment and just kind of reflect and talk about this being a great weekend for Tennessee football. It’s a great weekend for all of our players. They’ve done such a great job of not only representing their personal brands, but also the great brand of Tennessee.”"

Sure, the 2016 season was a disappointment and didn’t go as planned, but at least increasing players in the NFL Draft shows that the program is on the rise.

And Jones didn’t hesitate to note the solid numbers, which include the fact that six is the most number of players the Vols had drafted in the first four rounds since 2002.

To add more context, that 2002 NFL Draft class was the largest draft class in Tennessee football history, with 10 players taken.

So Jones does have plenty to be proud of after this draft. Now it’s time for him to get those win totals above nine games.
