The Athens, Ga. wide receiver has the Tennessee football Volunteers in his top 10.

As if Jeremy Pruitt hasn’t loaded up enough at wide receiver and on elite talent from the state of Georgia, Tennessee football recruiting surged again for a top receiver from that state. And they might have some help securing this guy.

Deion Colzie announced that the Vols were in his top 10 on Sunday. A four-star on Rivals out of Athens Academy in Athens, Ga., Colzie is a top 75 player nationally, the No. 11 ranked wide receiver and the No. 7 ranked player from his home state. Initially committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish before decommitting back in march, Colzie stands at 6’4″ 205 pounds.

In addition to Tennessee football and Notre Dame, Colzie had the Georgia Bulldogs, the Auburn Tigers, the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Florida Gators, the Ole Miss Rebels, the Virginia Cavaliers, the Oregon Ducks and the Penn State Nittany Lions on his list. He announced his list on Twitter.

Len’Neth Whitehead, a 6’2″ 232-pound athlete committed to the Vols for 2020, was a teammate of Colzie’s last year. According to Matthew Ray of SI, Whithead said he was working to recruit Colzie to Rocky Top everyday. He tweeted about that on Sunday as well.

Should the Vols land Colzie, they would be loaded at wide receiver for the future. Of course, it was necessary with the losses of Jauan Jennings, Marquez Callaway and Tyler Byrd from last year’s team and Brandon Johnson and Josh Palmer set to be seniors this year.

However, Pruitt secured commitments from three receivers in 2020 and has three more commitments at the position for 2021. Five of those six commitments are four-stars. He also has four athletes committed, and at least three of them could move to receiver. Simply put, he has worked hard to reload the position, anticipating all these losses.

Rocky Top already has a four-star receiver committed from Georgia in its 2021 class as well. Julian Nixon of Roswell, Ga. committed at the end of April. There are two players committed to UT from the state of Georgia right now, including Nixon and four-star running back Cody Brown.

Currently, the Dawgs are the unanimous favorite on the Rivals Future Cast and the favorite by a wide majority on the 247Sports Crystal Ball to land Colzie. They are also a favorite by a majority on the Rivals Fan Future Cast. However, Tennessee football clearly has an in with Whitehead, and Pruitt’s connections to the state of Georgia and Athens specifically could pay off.
