Last week’s news that UAB (Tennessee’s season-opening opponent in 2015) was shutting down their football program after this season left the Vols in a mad panic to find an opponent for their season-opener next season at LP Field.
It didn’t take long for the Vols to find someone.

Tennessee announced, on Tuesday, that they’ll open the 2015 season on September 5 against Bowling Green.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two programs.
Bowling Green recently played in the MAC championship game (they lost to Northern Illinois). The Falcons (7-6) will play South Alabama in the Raycom Media Bowl on December 20.
UAB owes Tennessee $925,000 for their canceled game next season. The Vols will pay Bowling Green $1.2 million to play at LP field in 2015.
Tennessee will obviously be favored against Bowling Green and should come away with a decisive win. However, it’s not like the Falcons are a terrible team.
Bowling Green was 1-1 against Power 5 opponents this past season. The Falcons lost to Wisconsin, but did beat Indiana (you know, the one non-conference team that beat the SEC East champion Missouri Tigers).
Considering the circumstances, the Tennessee athletic department did a fantastic job of quickly taking care of what could’ve been a sticky situation.
