Vols Recruiting: Kendall Bussey Commits To Tennessee

The Vols added another brick on Friday, securing a commitment from 2015 running back Kendall Bussey.

“Laying a foundation” is probably the most overused cliche in all sports, but there’s no better substitute for what Butch Jones is doing at Tennessee.

Jones is the middle of a major remodeling project in Knoxville and his solid foundation became even sturdier on Friday with the commitment from 2015 three-star running back Kendall Bussey.

Bussey, 5’8″/192 lbs from New Orleans, LA (Isidore Newman — the same high school as the Manning brothers), is the perfect compliment to Jalen Hurd’s bruising running style.

The Louisiana native, who recently named Texas A&M as his leaders, is a fast guy (4.42 speed) that will fit perfect in Jones’ offense.

Those end-around and jet sweeps that Vol fans love to hate? This is the guy that can execute those to perfection and keep the defense honest, opening up the playbook for explosive down-the-field opportunities.

Kendall Bussey isn’t a guy that’s getting a lot of national attention in the recruiting world, but he’s a guy that could make an instant impact on Rocky Top.

More from Tennessee Volunteers

Butch Jones and his staff have shown a knack for identifying talent. Going to Louisiana and getting Bussey is huge for the Vols and the future of their program.

One question that folks might have is “how will this affect Vol commit Rocky Reid’s status?”

I don’t think it will be that big of an issue. Bussey is a completely different offensive weapon. Bussey is more of an Isaiah Pead type runner, while Reid is more of a Jamal Lewis type. They will be used in completely different ways in the offense.

The Vols might have to consider changing their moniker from “WRU” to “RBU” if they keep adding talented running back commits like they have.
