Vols Recruiting: Final Signing Day Predictions

facebooktwitterreddit

If you’re a college football fan (and I’m assuming you are….otherwise what are you doing here?) then National Signing Day is one of the most important days of the year as far as your fandom is concerned.

After all, signing day is where teams are built — literally.

More from Tennessee Volunteers

Championships are won and lost based on the talent that is brought in on signing day.

Yes, it’s true that there are plenty more variables that go into winning. But you can’t win without raw talent and that’s what National Signing Day is all about.

As of Tuesday morning, the Vols have 28 2015 commitments.

However, they might not be done.

There are still several undecided recruits and some committed recruits that could flip to Tennessee.

Here are a few players who could make decisions on Wednesday that might impact the future of UT football.

Jaason Lewis — Athlete

Current status: Committed to Arizona State

Jaason Lewis seems to be open to making a move on signing day, though nothing is certain.

Lewis, who would likely play running back or linebacker at the college level, hasn’t visited Tennessee, which is not a good sign for the Vols’ chances.

But you can never say never in recruiting. The Volunteers could certainly use another running back in the 2015 class and they could make a strong late push for Lewis.

Prediction: Lewis sticks with Arizona State

Patrick Allen — Offensive Tackle

Current Status: Uncommitted

Patrick Allen previously committed to Georgia, but he decommitted when offensive coordinator Mike Bobo took the head coaching job at Colorado State.

Allen, however, hasn’t ruled out the Bulldogs and some folks believe that Georgia is back on top for Allen.

The Vols obviously need more offensive line help and they don’t want to miss on both Richmond and Allen.

But if Richmond were to flip to Tennessee, then there might not be room for Allen.

Prediction: Allen signs with Georgia

Kendall Bussey — Running Back

Current Status: Committed to Texas A&M

I’m only including Bussey on this list because his decommitment from Tennessee and subsequent commitment to Texas A&M was such a recent development.

The Bussey/Tennessee ship has sailed. It’s a big loss for the Vols and I can’t foresee Bussey changing his mind after making a public statement about his recruitment.

Prediction: Bussey sticks with Texas A&M

Jack Shutack — Offensive Tackle

Current Status: Committed to Rutgers

Jack Shutack appears to be torn between a scholarship offer from Rutgers and the opportunity to walk on at Tennessee.

Shutack is a three-star offensive tackle from Illinois that Tennessee would love to have.

Thought the thought of passing up a scholarship might be too hard for Shutack to swallow.

Prediction: Shutack signs with Rutgers

Camion Patrick — Wide Receiver

Current Status: Uncommitted

Patrick is a former UT commit that had to go the junior college route due to academic issues.

But the Tennessee native appears ready to join an FCS program and the Vols might just be the team for him.

Patrick is an extremely talented wide receiver that could’ve already been starring at the highest level of college football if not for issues with his grades.

If Tennessee wants to sign Patrick, I can’t see any reason he would shun the Volunteers.

Prediction: Patrick signs with Vols

Drew Richmond — Offensive Tackle

Current Status: Uncommitted

Drew Richmond is without a doubt the Vols’ biggest remaining target.

Richmond had been committed to Ole Miss since September, but he reportedly decommitted from the Rebels late Monday night.

The Memphis native took an official visit to Knoxville this past weekend that went as well as any Vol fan could hope.

I think Richmond feels comfortable at UT. If he follows his heart, I think he’s a Vol.

But it’s very well known that Richmond is being pushed toward Ole Miss, due to the close proximity to Memphis.

Things are certainly trending in the Vols’ favor and I think Ole Miss is quickly fading.

Prediction: Richmond flips to UT
