With 12 commitments at the dead period, here is an evaluation of the 2016 Tennessee Vols Recruiting class so far and a look at other prospects they are pursuing. This post examines the quarterback situation.

With Junior Quarterback Josh Dobbs on everybody’s mind as the guy to turn around the Tennessee football program this year and next year and three quarterbacks brought in by Butch Jones for the 2015 Tennessee Vols recruiting class, you’ll forgive Vol Nation if they don’t focus too hard on the quarterback position in recruiting right now.

But remember, that line of thinking is what did Phillip Fulmer in. He had no true replacement for Jonathan Crompton in 2008, and it became a problem.

Jones has done everything possible to avoid that issue.

He brought in three four-star prospects at the position for the 2015 class, two dual-threat quarterbacks in Sheriron Jones and Jauan Jennings and one pro-style quarterback in Quinten Dormady. All three prospects were Top 15 players on Rivals.

But so far this year, he has stepped up his game by bringing in a Top Five dual-threat prospect in Jarrett Guarantano already. None of the three in the other class were higher than No. 10 on Rivals.

Here we will take a look at the current commitments, potential prospects, and draw a final take on what needs to happen between now and February. Let’s start with the one player already committed to play quarterback for the Vols for 2016.
