Berry, who was first diagnosed last December after complaining about chest discomfort after a late November loss to the Oakland Raiders, will join other Chiefs players for the start of a three-day minicamp Wednesday at Missouri Western State University, according to a report on ESPN.
"Berry will answer questions Wednesday afternoon at a news conference in St. Joseph. Earlier Tuesday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid had said Berry was finishing a round of testing but hinted that positive news might follow shortly."
One of the places Berry clearly felt right at home while going through this was at his school in Knoxville. Berry made a visit to a Tennessee spring practice back in April and had a picture with Butch Jones, which you can see here.
Berry’s brothers, Evan and Elliott, are sophomores with the Vols. Evan is a defensive back, and Elliott is a linebacker.
While at Tennessee, Berry was clearly a leader. He played three years, achieved All-American honors, and won the Jim Thorpe award in 2009.
Berry came very close to setting the NCAA record for interception return yards for a career after stellar 2007 and 2008 seasons, but when Lane Kiffin brought in his staff, Monte Kiffin took over as defensive coordinator and used Berry more as almost a hybrid linebacker who also played a lot of man coverage.
He remains beloved in Vol Nation, and we are all glad he made a full recovery.
