The buzz around football season can be felt in Knoxville, and with the highest expectations in years, Tennessee Vols ticket prices are going up as well.

Remember the time when you had to beg for a ticket to a Florida, Georgia, or Alabama game because they sold out before even hitting the open market?

Those were the days of Tennessee Volunteers football. And they appear to be coming back. But that also means higher prices.

Regardless of how bad they are at the time, the Vols always can charge more than usual for ticket prices because of how loyal their fan base is. But a spot in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll Top 25, possible expectations of winning the SEC East, and a general sense of excitement around what Butch Jones has put together for his third year at the helm has obviously increased interest.

According to information from SeatGeek, the Vols have jumped from the 18th most expensive tickets in college football last year to the 11th most expensive this year. Their average overall resale price is $134, a 21 percent jump from the $114 average last year.

To make matters more hilarious, the average for Tennessee Vols ticket prices is $10 higher than the average for the Tennessee Titans, who are averaging $124 on the secondary market. Yes, the Vols are outselling the Titans, who should have generated at least some buzz after drafting a new quarterback with the second pick in Marcus Mariota, who could generate lots of excitement.

It seems like the Titans have been pathetic for so long that nobody wants to give them a chance until they actually start winning.

The amount of money spent on the secondary market for the Tennessee Vols this year is estimated at $1.4 million, up from the $800,000 last year.

The cheapest average resale prices for Tennessee Vols games at home or a neutral site are North Texas on Nov. 19 for $39, Western Carolina on Sept. 19 for $48, Vanderbilt on Nov. 28 for $75, and Bowling Green in Nashville on Sept. 5 for $109.

Meanwhile, home games against Arkansas at South Carolina are $126 and $115 respectively, and Georgia on Oct. 10 is $172.

The Oklahoma Sooners at home are Sept. 12 is the most expensive home game at $197.

And on the road, the Vols play in the 15th most expensive game of the year right now against the Alabama Crimson Tide, with the average resale value at of $266. The resale average for Florida in The Swamp is $128.

Simply put, the Vols are back to drawing serious interest for football games. Another sign that they are on the way back.
