After taking the ACT on Aug. 10, wide receiver Preston Williams was finally welcomed to the Tennessee Vols Football team by Coach Butch Jones Thursday.

It is finally over. Wide Receiver Preston Williams, who was a four-star on Rivals, has joined the Tennessee Volunteers.

Butch Jones welcomed Williams to the team via Twitter Thursday afternoon.

Williams had committed to Tennessee but could not join the Vols football team yet because of an issue with the ACT. He took the exam on Aug. 10 and had to await the results.

Just earlier in the day at his noon press conference, Jones said there was no timetable on when he could finally join the team. He stopped short of criticizing the NCAA but called the situation “unfortunate” at the time.

Here is what he said about the situation as well as the full Thursday press conference.

Obviously, it’s night and day comparing that to his excitement on Twitter just two hours later.

Tennessee is clearly Wide Receiver U, and Williams could be a huge addition to the program. Despite the depth the Vols have at the position, they suffered so many injuries down the stretch last year that they became a bit thin towards the end. That makes him a huge addition.

Williams is a 6’3″ receiver who will probably get up to 200 pounds once he goes through practice, and after he learns the offense, he has a very high ceiling, if he even has one at all.

So this is another huge target for Dobbs and Co. to enjoy, and he will be another freshman who could see action immediately. A lot of it depends on how fast he picks up the offense.

But it’s great to have him on the team.
