The All for Tennessee official Preseason Top 25 is out. See where the Tennessee Vols and everybody else come in.

We have all got the gitters now. College football starts this week! How can you not be excited about this?

As part of the week leading up to it, All for Tennessee will be providing its official 2015 college football preview, starting with our Preseason Top 25.

More from Vols Football

These rankings were based on a point system compiled by the All for Tennessee staff. Each writer sent in their own Top 25, and teams obviously got more points the higher they were ranked.

With this system, we should go ahead and get one thing out of the way: the Tennessee Vols were in everybody’s Top 25.

But they did not compile enough points to be in the overall Top 25. And that is just fine.

The Vols came in at No. 26. Although that is lower than even the AP Poll and Coaches’ Poll for this year, perhaps it should be the Tennessee-based site to bring the football team back to Earth.

While there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the football team going into the season, the drought and failures of the program have gone on for too long. At this point, they should not generate any hype until they earn it.

Need I remind anybody of 2012 or 2005 or even 2002?

The Vols simply have a terrible history of managing expectations, and with seven straight years of six losses or more, five years of which were losing seasons, they simply should not be put in any Top 25 yet without proving it on the field.

So now that Tennessee is explained and out of the way, let’s move on to our official Preseason Top 25 countdown.
