Tennessee Vols freshman defensive lineman Andrew Butcher was arrested Sunday for public intoxication and underage alcohol possession, according to reports.

Tennessee Volunteers defensive end Andrew Butcher was arrested by Knoxville Police after he was found allegedly intoxicated as he ran around Interstate 40 at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, according to a report from GoVolsXtra.

The report stated that Butcher had told the arresting officer that he had been drinking beer. Here is an excerpt from the article:

"Butcher, 18, who listed White Avenue as his address, was arrested Sunday. He was charged with public intoxication, underage possession of alcohol and violating a controlled access roadway.Records state an officer responding to a complaint of someone exhibiting drunken behavior on I-40 found Butcher “running around on 40 East near James White Parkway.”"

A spokesman for the University said the incident will be handled “internally.”

Whatever happens to Butcher, who is a freshman will obviously not be too big of a deal this year. The Vols are already loaded at defensive line, and even though he was a highly touted lineman, he was not expected to play this year anyway after undergoing offseason knee surgery.

We are not going to play the moral police here and condemn underage drinking on college campuses as if they do not happen all the time.

The real question, though, is why would you go near I-40 if you are under the influence? If Butcher was drinking and walking on Interstate 40, he clearly is a guy who can’t handle his alcohol.

You don’t get much more idiotic than that. And honestly, an arrest is the least of his worries.

He is lucky that he was not killed doing that. Perhaps he should be a lot more aware of his surroundings ahead of time the next time he decides to take in a few drinks.

This is clearly something Butch Jones will need to address soon, though.
